How to Get Your Binance Tax Documents
Get your Binance tax documents fast: where to find transaction history and 1099 forms, what Binance.US reports to the IRS, and how to file crypto taxes.
To get your Binance tax documents, download your full transaction history from the platform's tax or export tools, then reconcile it into capital gains and income. If you use Binance.US you may also receive a Form 1099 reporting activity to the IRS. Here's exactly where to find everything and what to do with it.
Binance.com vs. Binance.US: which one are you using?
This matters before you download anything. The global Binance.com platform does not serve US persons and does not issue US tax forms. Most US residents trade on Binance.US, a separate company, which does report to the IRS. If you hold a legacy Binance.com account, you'll still owe US tax on your gains and income even without a US form — you just have to build the records yourself from exported history.
Where to find your Binance.US tax documents
Binance.US provides both raw transaction data and, where applicable, official IRS forms:
- Tax Statements / Reports: Log in and open the account or profile menu, then look for the tax or reports section. Here you can pull a consolidated tax statement and any 1099 forms issued for the year.
- Transaction history export (CSV): Use the export tool to download a full CSV of trades, deposits, withdrawals, staking rewards, and other activity. This is the most important file — it's the complete record your return is built from.
- API keys: Binance.US lets you generate read-only API keys so tax software can pull your data automatically instead of relying on manual CSVs.
What forms will you actually receive?
Two form types are relevant for 2025 and later tax years:
| Form | What it covers |
|---|---|
| 1099-MISC | Ordinary income such as staking rewards, referral bonuses, or promotions, typically once it reaches the reporting threshold. |
| 1099-DA | The new digital asset broker form, phased in starting with 2025 transactions, reporting gross proceeds from sales and exchanges. Cost basis reporting is added in later years. |
Even if you receive a form, treat it as a starting point rather than a finished answer. Early 1099-DA reporting often shows proceeds without accurate cost basis, which can make your gains look far larger than they really are. For a broader walkthrough of these forms, see how Coinbase tax documents work — the structure is similar across major US exchanges.
How Binance activity is taxed
The IRS treats crypto as property, so the same rules apply on Binance as anywhere else:
- Capital gains: Selling, trading one coin for another, or spending crypto is a disposal. You owe tax on the difference between proceeds and your cost basis. Assets held over a year qualify for lower long-term rates.
- Ordinary income: Staking rewards, referral bonuses, and similar earnings are taxed as income at their fair market value when you receive them — and that value becomes your cost basis if you sell later. See our guide to crypto staking taxes for the details.
One important 2025 change: cost basis is now tracked per wallet and per account, not pooled across all your holdings. If you moved coins between Binance.US, another exchange, and a self-custody wallet, you need to track basis in each location separately.
Step-by-step: pulling your records
- Confirm whether your account is Binance.US or legacy Binance.com.
- Download the full-year transaction history CSV, plus any 1099-MISC or 1099-DA forms.
- Include every activity type: trades, deposits, withdrawals, staking, and rewards — not just trades.
- If you used multiple exchanges or wallets, gather those records too so transfers are matched and not misread as sales.
- Reconcile everything into capital gains (Form 8949 and Schedule D) and income (Schedule 1 or Schedule C).
Why the CSV alone is rarely enough
A Binance export tells you what happened, but not always the USD value at the moment of each transaction, and it won't automatically match a withdrawal from Binance to a deposit in your other wallet. Left unmatched, transfers get counted as taxable disposals and inflate your bill. Pricing each transaction to the correct historical value and stitching your wallets together is where most manual spreadsheets break down.
